About Us

Hi!  We are Jill and Sarah! And WE are your best friends on the internet.

We have known each other for a REALLY long time.  When we tell people that we’ve been friends since the second grade they are often really surprised.  Once, some guy from Stanford said he wanted to do a case study on us.  We know how rare it is to keep a friend all the way from elementary school – especially with all the change life brings.  Somehow we always managed to find our way back to each other.  And when we did, we always picked up right where we left off.  We have shared a lot – from melodramatic middle school mix tapes to a high school locker to letters across many miles to wedding plans and baby tips and tricks.  There is no doubt that we are each other’s person – and always will be.

A Wild Rumpus (originally Cap City Moms) was Jill’s brain child and labor of love.  Sarah is easily convinced to do just about anything Jill wants to do and was happy to join in on the fun that is AWR. A Wild Rumpus has been a lot of things over its relatively short existence, but what it has ALWAYS been is a spot for us to share.  We know that being a mom, a lady and just ALIVE is a wild ride, but we also know you are way more than just the sum of your parts.  There are still big dreams to be dreamed and adventures to be had.  We are using this little corner of the web to chronicle our adventures and live out our big dreams.

We hope you’ll join us and we hope you’ll join in!  Read along with the Book Club,  tell us your thoughts and share your story.  We are always scheming for new and exciting ways to build our community of mamas and more.  We love our hometown – Sacramento, California is where we are rooted, but all are welcome to join in! So welcome!  We are happy to be your best friends on the internet!!

Jill Mansfield has a crush on California and loves living in Sacramento. She grew up in a family of five kids, two parents and is still alive to tell the tale. Jill is married to her high school sweetheart and they have two beautiful daughters. The four of them adore their labradoodle pup. Jill spends much of her free time shuttling children to various sports practices or cheering them on at their games. Her family and friends mean the world to her and she’s trying to figure out a way that everyone can live on one farm. Jill loves fiercely and has a great big heart. She may or may not be addicted to watching hockey. Jill has been quietly writing stories about her family life for years as she looks for the beauty in chaos. She now shares many of these stories at

Sarah Maren Whitehead is a full time photographer, part time wife and mother and sometimes writer. She is the creative director for A Wild Rumpus. When she’s not making pretty pictures or working on writing you’ll find her hanging out with her husband and two kids, dancing in her kitchen, or trying to convince herself to go on a run. But most likely she can be found curled up in a quiet spot with a good book.
