So Jill isn’t the only one cheating on book club. I too have been philandering the past couple months. I have read a lot of books, and none of them are the book I chose for September/October CCM Book Club. I’m not exactly sure what that’s all about! Actually, I do. It’s about how the fall of every year eats me alive. I think it’s kind of like childbirth in that I forget how painful the falls are for me. My work load triples, kids start school, the holidays loom over me and I get unbearably tired. But somehow when I’m not in it I forget about it. I have selective amnesia I guess.
So every year when I’m selecting the Book Club read for the fall I make it something that is kinda ambitious. Friends, I gotta slow my roll on that. Like for reals. Because I don’t have time for ambition right now. I have time for survival and that’s about it! So, yeah. I didn’t read the latest book club selection. And truth be told, I’m probably not gonna. I’ve been spending my precious little reading time on books that are helping me with my business or helping me with my soul or helping me mellow the hell out. I kept looking at the synopsis of the stories in “Single, Carefree, Mellow” and I kept thinking, I DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR THAT! And so instead I read “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (Revised Edition)” by Jesse Andrews and “State of Wonder: A Novel” by Ann Pachett and “Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear” by Elizabeth Gilbert and “A Blind Man Can See How Much I Love You” by Amy Bloom.
Here’s the thing. Those books are the books I NEEDED to read. I did not NEED to read our selection. So I feel 0% guilt over not reading. ZERO PERCENT! But I do feel bad for not participating with you who did read it. And in fact I really want to hear from anyone who took the time to read the selection. Which brings me to our next book club meeting. This month is insane around here. I have a lot of weddings to shoot this month (which is not normal for November, but I’ll take it) and SO much work to do with all the other things I photographed this fall. Truth be told, I can’t fit one more thing on my calendar this month. SO! We are moving the book club meeting to the first week of December. That’s right – I’m shaking it up a bit! We will be discussing both the September/October and the November/December selections. And I am TOTALLY reading our current pick, “The Eyre Affair” If you want to be a part of the book club discussion then join our Book Club Discussion group on Facebook or Goodreads!
